About Food Expiration Dates

Food Expiration Dates helps users manage their food stock and track expiration dates, reducing food waste in households.

The app has been downloaded more than 1,000 times in over 100 countries, with people searching for expiration dates daily from all over the world. Currently, the app has almost 400 monthly active users, and it’s growing steadily with contributions from developers like you. Addtionally, Food Expiration Dates is featured on the Open Sustainable Technology list.

How You Can Contribute

This Hacktoberfest, you can contribute in a variety of ways:

Bug Fixes: there aren’t known bugs right now, but if you find something that’s not working as expected, you’re welcome to fix it. If you’re a beginner, fixing bugs is a great way to get started!

New Features: if you’re feeling creative and want to add a new feature, check out the feature requests listed or suggest your own ideas. All contributions are welcome!

Documentation: good documentation is crucial for any project. Whether it’s improving the README, documenting the code, or providing better instructions for contributors, there’s always room for improvement.

UI/UX Improvements: do you have a knack for design? There’s always an opportunity to enhance the user experience and interface of the app. Feel free to bring in your creative ideas!

How to Get Started

  1. Sign up for Hacktoberfest: If you haven’t already, sign up at Hacktoberfest and link your GitHub account.
  2. Explore the Repository: Visit the Food Expiration Dates repository and take a look at the open issues or feature ideas. Be sure to check the Contributing Guidelines to understand how to get involved.
  3. Submit Pull Requests: Once you’ve made your contributions, submit a pull request, and I’ll be happy to review and merge it! If you complete four pull requests by the end of October, you’ll qualify for Hacktoberfest rewards.
